World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought – College of law

In the interest of the presidency of the University of Mosul, represented by Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, to build bridges of scientific and academic communication with the community in its various categories and segments, and in an effort by the Deanship of the Faculty of Law at the University of Mosul to spread legal culture, the International Days Committee in the Human Rights Law branch has been shedding light on On the international days related to the life of the individual and society, and from these days the International Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which coincides with the seventeenth of June, where the celebration of this day began according to Resolution No. (92) of the forty-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly in 1994, where the world celebrates Annually on this occasion in order to increase efforts to renew the fertility of the land and contribute to promoting the restoration of fertile lands in addition to discussing ways to enhance economic resilience and mechanisms to create new job opportunities and contribute to raising incomes and increasing food security, as well as supporting biodiversity that helps to recoverThe climate by absorbing carbon, whose sequestration leads to a rise in global temperature and slowing the pace of climate change and in turn pushing towards recovery from the Corona pandemic

The theme of the World Day to Combat Desertification for this year is (Rising from Drought Together), which aims to restore natural ecosystems to recover from the Corona pandemic. UNCCD Secretariat all states, civil society organizations, international organizations, NGOs and stakeholders to draw attention to land issues and educate the public on effective methods for achieving land degradation neutrality through documentaries, organizing conferences, round tables, seminars and exhibitions related to international cooperation to combat desertification and the effects of drought, In order to contribute to a better achievement of the goals of the World Desertification Day, ESCWA, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and the United Nations Office for Information and Communication Technology launched a youth competition on land restoration.Degraded land in the Arab region, and a number of experts will participate in this celebration to discuss the necessary measures to protect the land and reform ecosystems in the wake of the Corona pandemic, and the role of youth in restoring degraded lands in the Arab region will be discussed. A major obstacle to meeting the necessary human needs in dry lands, especially in the aspect related to food security, as studies issued by the United Nations Environment Program indicate that desertification affects one-sixth of the world’s population and contributes to making desertification, which means the deterioration of the productivity of lands in dry and non-arid areas. And semi-humid, natural and human factors, and based on the importance of the environment and the concern of the Deanship of the Faculty of Law and members of its distinguished faculty council, it calls on all state institutions to activate the international agreements concerned with the protection of the environment and the ecosystem and put them into practice.Our need for forests and green lands in order to enhance a healthy environment conducive to eliminating diseases and epidemics, in addition to their active role in providing food, job opportunities and eco-tourism.International Days Activities Committee/Human Rights Law Branch/college of Law/University of Al Mosul .
