Qualification Course: Establishing and Managing Fish Farming Projects

As part of its pioneering efforts to prepare graduating students for professional life, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine – University of Mosul launched its first initiatives aimed at helping final-year students transition into the job market, create job opportunities, and establish and manage their own projects.

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the unit organized a qualification course on establishing and managing fish farming projects for fifth-year students.


🎯 Course Objectives:

  • Presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ghassan Saeed (Head of the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit), the session began with an introduction to the unit’s mission, encouraging students to explore the private sector and consider launching profitable small businesses—including fish farming projects.

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Shahbaa Khalil Ibrahim provided an in-depth explanation of the fish farming project, covering:

    • Types of ponds and fish

    • Stocking densities and environmental requirements

    • Site selection

    • Care, management, supervision

    • Growth stages and age group handling

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Hadeel Basim Thanoon focused on:

    • Marketing strategies and methods

    • Fish preservation techniques

    • Proper methods for transportation and storage


This initiative reflects the college’s commitment to empowering students with practical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills, supporting their integration into the labor market, and promoting self-employment through sustainable agricultural and veterinary practices.
