A master’s thesis presented by Rafah Mohammed Matar Atallah, titled “Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Cryptosporidium in Sheep”

The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul, held a defense for the master’s thesis entitled “Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Cryptosporidium in Sheep”, presented by Rafah Mohammed Matar Atallah (Veterinary Parasitology) on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The research investigated the occurrence of Cryptosporidium in fecal and milk samples collected from sheep in Nineveh Province. Microscopic examination revealed several risk factors influencing infection rates. Molecular analysis confirmed three species—C. parvum, C. hominis, and C. ubiquitum—representing the first documented report of these species in sheep in Nineveh. Furthermore, six isolates were deposited in GenBank under the designation RFMN-2024.
