Overview of the Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine
Established in 1976, the Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine is one of the main clinical departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine. It consists of two sections: Internal Medicine and Pathological Diagnostics. The department has a total of 30 members, including 22 academic staff holding advanced degrees with various academic ranks as follows:

Vision:
To advance animal health in a way that contributes to the development of livestock wealth and ensures the health of humans and the surrounding environment through excellence in teaching and scientific research in the field of veterinary internal and preventive medicine.
Mission:
To equip veterinary students with the necessary knowledge to diagnose and treat internal and infectious diseases in various animals, as well as to prepare specialized scientific cadres in this field.
Objectives:

Train students on the fundamentals of examining animal disease cases, diagnosing, and treating them.

Teach fourth- and fifth-year students courses related to internal, infectious, and epidemiological diseases, along with laboratory diagnostic methods.

Prepare specialized cadres in veterinary internal and preventive medicine through postgraduate curricula.

Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for different animals, as well as consultancy services for animal breeders.

Deliver awareness lectures on infectious and zoonotic diseases within the university and various extension centers.

Organize refresher courses for veterinarians to maintain communication and familiarize them with modern techniques used in clinical and laboratory diagnosis.

Conduct regular field training in villages and districts of Nineveh Governorate to enhance student training and serve the community.
Teaching Responsibilities:
The teaching duties of the department’s staff are distributed over three academic years as follows:

Third year: Veterinary Practice

Fourth year: Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Pathological Diagnostics, Epidemiology, and Veterinary Practice

Fifth year: Internal Medicine, Research Projects, and Veterinary Practice
