Overview of the Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology

Established in 1976, the Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology is one of the largest academic departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine. It is responsible for teaching General and Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Toxicology. The department equips students with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in these disciplines to prepare them as competent veterinarians and offers continuing education courses.

Vision:
As the largest academic department in the College of Veterinary Medicine, the department strives for excellence and innovation in veterinary medicine, in accordance with global standards. It aims for leadership in veterinary education and scientific research to ensure animal health and enhance animal wealth in a cleaner environment.

Mission:
To provide students with essential theoretical and practical knowledge in physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology, and to prepare qualified academic cadres for postgraduate studies in these specializations.

Objectives:

  • To provide students with fundamental concepts and the necessary experience to prepare them as veterinarians in the sciences of chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and toxicology.

  • To offer continuing education courses (for veterinarians and specialists in life sciences and medical colleges) in veterinary pharmacology and toxicology, in addition to providing scientific consultations in veterinary treatments.

  • To train postgraduate students in the fields of veterinary physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology.
