Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches Begins Cotton Harvest.

In a promising research initiative aimed at enhancing food security and adapting to climate challenges, the Dryland and Conservation Agriculture Research Center at the University of Mosul commenced field data collection and the initial harvest of its cotton crop on October 5-6, 2025.

This activity, a continuation of the center’s scientific research efforts, was conducted under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammed Subhi Al-Taweel, Head of the Genetic Resources Department, with participation of Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Mohammad Salih and Assistant Lecturer Ammar Habib Mahmoud. The cotton crop is a significant focus of the center’s ongoing research trials.

This step is part of concerted efforts to boost agricultural production by testing new genetic varieties resilient to the climatic variability facing Iraq. The objective is to provide farmers with suitable cultivars that improve crop quality and increase their productivity. This initiative aligns with the center’s continuous commitment to developing sustainable agricultural solutions that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
