Cultivation of Two Yellow Corn Varieties Using Biochar.

A recent agricultural experiment was conducted on Thursday, April 23, 2026, to study the effect of biochar on the growth and yield of two yellow corn varieties. The experiment was carried out by Lecturer Thakir J. Dlem and Lecturer Ammar H. Mahmood, aiming to improve crop yield and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers. The study involved planting two different corn varieties under varying conditions of biochar application, with monitoring of growth and yield indicators. Biochar contributes to improving soil fertility and nutrient use efficiency, thereby reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. Planting was done using a manual planter with equal seed spacing and varying depths of biochar application.

This experiment underscores the importance of adopting sustainable agricultural practices, such as using biochar, to enhance agricultural production while preserving the environment and reducing costs for farmers.

The experiment aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

          Goal 2 (Zero Hunger)

Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)

          Goal 13 (Climate Action)

        Goal 15 (Life on Land)
