Conservation agriculture bears fruit: Barley harvest in Uwaynat supports research studies.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, the barley harvest for the current agricultural season began in the village of Uwaynat, part of the Rabi’a district in Nineveh Governorate, within fields applying the conservation agriculture system. This coincided with the work of research teams from the Center of Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research (C.AFCAR), aiming to complete the collection of field data on agricultural productivity and evaluate the performance of modern techniques in these areas.
During the harvest phase, researchers are conducting necessary field measurements to determine crop yield and calculate the total production of the crop in the fields included in the study. This is done by taking representative samples from the cultivated areas and recording various productivity indicators, which helps assess the efficiency of applying the conservation agriculture system compared to traditional methods.
This data is of great importance in supporting scientific studies related to improving the productivity of field crops and enhancing the sustainability of natural resources, especially in areas facing climatic challenges and water scarcity. The obtained results also help formulate appropriate technical recommendations for farmers to improve production efficiency and reduce the costs of agricultural operations.
The outcomes of this practice are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 15 (Life on Land), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
