A Master’s thesis at the College of Archaeology discussing (Agricultural machines and tools in ancient Iraq – a lexical study)

On Monday, July 17, 2023, in the hall of Dr. Behnam Abu Al-Sof in the college, the Department of Ancient Iraqi Languages at the College of Archeology at the University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis titled (Agricultural machines and tools in ancient Iraq – a lexical study)

In the hall of Dr. Behnam Abu Al-Souf in the College of Archaeology, some of which were attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Yasmine Abdel Karim Muhammad Ali, Dean of the College, and a number of professors and students of the College.

The study presented by researcher (Tahrir Ibrahim Abboud) from the Department of Ancient Iraqi Languages dealt with the study of agricultural machines and tools in ancient Iraq in terms of their names, forms, the beginning of their use in daily and economic life, and the uses of those machines and tools, each according to the actual need for them.

The study touched on agricultural life in ancient Iraq and how the first agricultural villages arose in Iraq, especially the village of Jarmo, after people moved from a life of gathering food to a life of producing food.

The study aims to establish the names of agricultural machines and tools, the words that indicate each instrument and tool in the Sumerian and Akkadian languages, and the forms in which these names appear in ancient and modern dictionaries, according to a lexical study.

The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Hussein Zahir Hammoud and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Muharib Ali and Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Ibrahim Saber from Al-Hamdaniya University / College of Arts / Department of History, and under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Salem Yahya Khalaf from the University of Mosul / College of Arts / Department of History.
