Artificial Intelligence in Archaeology and Exploration Workshop

Under the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Yasmin Abdul Karim Mohammed Ali, Dean of the College, the College of Archaeology/Continuing Education Unit held a workshop entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Archaeology and Exploration.” The workshop, presented by Assistant Professor Ahed Al-Hamami, a certified expert in AI education, took place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in the Dr. Behnam Abu Al-Souf Hall. The workshop explored the integration of artificial intelligence technologies in archaeology to transform traditional processes into precise and rapid digital research. Advanced applications such as Ithaca and Aeneas demonstrated their remarkable ability to restore ancient texts and accurately date and determine their geographical origins. The workshop also highlighted the role of machine learning algorithms in analyzing satellite imagery and radar data to uncover buried features without the need for indiscriminate excavation. Furthermore, the technology contributes to the digital reconstruction of fragmented artifacts and the creation of virtual twins of sites threatened with destruction. These documents emphasize that the machine serves as an aid, enhancing the skills of the human researcher without replacing their analytical role. The lecturer emphasizes the ethical dimensions and the need to verify the results to ensure that human heritage is protected from misinterpretations.
