Master’s Thesis Defense: “Prince Husam al-Dawla Abu al-Shawk al-Annazi (401-437 AH / 1011-1046 CE): His Biography and the Political Landscape During His Reign”

The Department of History at the College of Arts recently convened to discuss a Master’s thesis titled “Prince Husam al-Dawla Abu al-Shawk al-Annazi (401-437 AH / 1011-1046 CE): His Biography and the Political Landscape During His Reign.” The defense took place on Monday, June 30, 2025. In attendance were Professor Dr. Hatem Fahd Al-Tai, Dean of the College, Dr. Mahmoud Saleh Saeed, Head of the Department, and several faculty members.

The study, submitted by postgraduate student Ghufran Ismail Abdul-Wahhab from the Department of History, meticulously examined the life and political environment surrounding Prince Husam al-Dawla Abu al-Shawk al-Annazi.

The thesis aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of Prince Husam al-Dawla Abu al-Shawk al-Annazi, recognizing him as a pivotal figure among the Kurdish Annazid emirs in the Jibal region during the 5th century AH / 11th century CE. His significant contributions to regional history are underscored by his military and political leadership, through which he successfully consolidated the foundations of the Annazid Emirate amidst a backdrop of internal and regional conflicts.
