Master’s thesis in the College of Basic Education on (Breaking the Horizon of Expectation in Al-Bardouni’s Poetry).

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on (Breaking the Horizon of Expectation in Al-Bardouni’s Poetry) on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Al-Hadbaa Hall in the college.
The thesis, submitted by the student (Fatima Anis Younis Ali) from the Department of Arabic Language, aimed to reveal the importance of the concept of (Breaking the Horizon of Expectation) introduced by Hans Robert Janss in activating the recipient’s relationship with the text, and transforming his relationship with the text from a one-way relationship from the text to the reader only to a reciprocal relationship that goes in two reciprocal directions from the text to the reader and from the reader to the text.
The study addressed several axes, including: (Titles that break the horizon of expectation through semantic shift – suggestive titles, titles that break the horizon of expectation through contextual shift – evasive titles).
The study reached many results, including: (Breaking the horizon of expectation represented the essence of Al-Bardouni’s poetic experience and is manifested at various levels. The poet did not deal with breaking expectations as a rhetorical trick, but rather as a communication and interpretation tool that reshapes the relationship between the text and the recipient, as he transformed the act of reception from a negative consumerist process to a positive creative process, contributing to achieving poetic aesthetics, which is described as based on tension and not on automatic consumption.)
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Nabhan Hassoun Abdullah, and the membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus Saleh Al-Juraisi, Assistant Professor Dr. Reem Muhammad Tayeb, and Assistant Professor Dr. Faiza Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani as a member and supervisor.
