The Department of Mathematics at the College of Basic Education—University of Mosul is one of the governmental institutions of higher education and scientific research in Iraq. Due to its integration with other scientific disciplines, mathematics is considered one of the most important modern applied sciences. The department was established in 1996, and it grants students a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialization in Mathematics.
The department aims to prepare qualified teachers capable of teaching mathematics in basic education schools. It seeks to equip them with essential teaching skills, pedagogical training, and research experience through graduation projects. Students are also expected to master foundational mathematical theories, theorems, and laws while developing their ability to use computer software and modern technologies in education. Furthermore, the department focuses on enhancing teaching competencies through seminars, annual research publications, and cooperation with counterpart mathematics departments. It also contributes to community service by collaborating with the General Directorate of Education in Nineveh Province to provide practical training for fourth-year students in various primary schools.
The department currently has 24 faculty members, including 11 PhD holders and 13 Master’s degree holders. Among the staff, 4 have the academic title of Assistant Professor, 12 as Lecturers, and 9 as Assistant Lecturers.
