The Department of Mathematics – College of Basic Education – University of Mosul is considered one of the governmental institutions of higher education and scientific research in Iraq. Mathematics is considered one of the most important modern applied sciences that intersect with other sciences. The Department of Mathematics was established in 1996. The bachelor’s student obtains a Bachelor of Education degree in mathematics. The department aims to prepare competent teachers to teach mathematics who possess the basic skills for teaching in basic education schools, in addition to preparing them pedagogically. Training them in scientific research through graduation projects, familiarity with theories, theorems, and basic mathematical laws in mathematics, and developing students’ ability to use computer-ready programs and modern technologies in education. In addition to developing teaching capabilities through seminars, publishing annual research, and cooperating with departments corresponding to the Mathematics Department, the department also contributes to community service through cooperation with the General Directorate of Education in Nineveh Governorate in practical application for fourth-stage students in various primary schools. The number of teaching staff is 20 male and female, of whom 9 hold a doctorate degree and 11 hold a master’s degree. The department includes 2 with the title of assistant professor, 12 with the title of teacher, and 6 with the title of assistant teacher. As for the students in the initial stages, they are as follows: the first is in the morning (64), the first is in the evening (51), the second is in the morning (273), the second is in the evening (75), the third is in the morning (303), the number in the evening is (38), the fourth Al-Sabahi No. (298).
