The Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences

was established in the College of Basic Education in 1993. The number of faculty members in it is (32) male and female teachers currently. The department awards a Bachelor’s degree in Basic Education in Physical Education and thousands of male and female students have graduated. Postgraduate studies were also opened in it to award a Master’s degree in (2005-2006) in the specialization of (Sports Sciences). Doctoral studies were also opened in the department since the academic year (2018-2019) to award a doctorate degree in the specialization of (Sports Sciences). There are (9) specializations in the department, including (Sports Psychology, Training Science, Training Physiology, Sports Biomechanics, Measurement and Evaluation, Motor Learning, Methods of Teaching Sports Education, Management and Organization, Philosophy and History of Sports Education). More than 50 male and female students have graduated for postgraduate studies in previous years and up until now. The department aims to prepare a generation of university graduate teachers with scientific and practical skills in various sports fields, including theoretical, practical, applied, quantitative, technical and information aspects, so that their future work will not be limited to the educational aspect, but rather their skills will enable them to enter the field of training, educational administration and sports supervision and to practice many tasks that are consistent with their scientific and practical abilities acquired during their studies in the Department of Physical Education. Therefore, the department seeks to prepare a sports cadre familiar with all the scientific and information skills related to sports games and events, so that they are able to serve the university and education in the school environment and society and influence it.
