PH.D. Dissertation Viva-Chemistry Department

PH.D. Dissertation Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” Development of different analytical methods for the determination of some drugs and some of their binary mixtures using various analytical techniques “The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the PH.D. Dissertation Viva entitled ” Development of different analytical methods for the determination of some drugs and some of their binary mixtures using various analytical techniques “,On Monday, November 14, 2022, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Chemistry, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva. This study, presented by the PH.D. Student Ikram Kathim Othman Al-Nuaimi in the Department of Chemistry, consisted of six chapters:The first chapter included a review of the analytical methods used to estimate the studied drug compounds, including Adrenaline, Methyldopa, Dopamine, Atorvastatin, Rosuvastatin, Simvastatin, Thymol, Paracetamol, Phenylephrine, Omeprazole, Esomeprazole and Pantoprazole, using different analytical techniques. The second chapter dealt with the development of spectrophotometric method for the determination of Adrenaline, Methyldopa and Dopamine hydrochloride in their pure forms and pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the oxidation of these drugs by known amount of N-bromosuccinimide in the acidic medium and the unreacted oxidizing agent bleach the color of the fixed amount of chalcone dye.The third chapter included the development of spectrophotometric method for the determination of Atorvastatin calcium, Rosuvastatin calcium and Simvastatin in their pure forms and in pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the using of Tropaeoline OO dye as a chromogenic reagent for the formation of ion-pair complexes in acidic aqueous medium. The fourth chapter included the development of two spectrophotometric methods for the determination of microgram amounts of Thymol. Both methods are depended on the application of the cloud point extraction technique in the presence of the Triton X-114 surfactant. The first method based on the formation of an azo dye with an orange color between Thymol and 2,4-dinitroaniline reagent in the alkaline medium. In the second method, the oxidative coupling reaction was applied, depending on the reaction of Thymol with 4-amino salicylic acid as coupling reagent using sodium metaperiodate as oxidizing agent in the alkaline medium. The fifth chapter deals with an economical spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of Paracetamol and Phenylephrine hydrochloride in their mixture, by applying the H-point standard addition method (HPSAM).The sixth chapter included the development of fluorometric method for the determination of Omeprazole, Esomeprazole magnesium and Pantoprazole in their pure forms and in their pharmaceutical preparations, based on their reaction with eosin-Y dye as a fluorescent dye to form non-fluorescent ion-pair complexes in acetate buffer solution. The Viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. ILham Saadallah Saleh / University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science and the membership of Prof. Dr. Salem Ali Mohamed Saleh / Mosul University/College of Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Shatha Younes Yahya / Tikrit University/ College of Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sobhi Mohsen Jarallah / Mosul University/College of Education for Pure Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaleda M. Omar Al-Taie / Mosul University/College of Science and under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Theia’a N.Al-Sabha / University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science.
