Master Thesis Viva _Chemistry Department

Master thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” Synthesis And Study Of Reactions Of Some Heterocyclic Derivatives With Expected Biological Activity ”

The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master thesis Viva entitled ” Synthesis And Study Of Reactions Of Some Heterocyclic Derivatives With Expected Biological Activity”,

On Sunday, December 3, 2023, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Chemistry, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.

This study, presented by the master student Zahra khaled mohammed in the Department of Chemistry, includes the preparation of some heterocyclic compounds such as oxadiazole (Z22-33) and azetidine-2-one (Z34-45) substituted from 4-hydroxy-6-substituted-quinoline compound. Azetidine compounds were prepared by treatment of hydrazones (Z10-21) with chloroacetyl chloride in presence of tritely amine while 1,3,4-oxadiazole compounds were synthesized through treatment of the same hydrazones above with concentration of sulfuric acid. This hydrazone compounds were prepared by treatment of hydrazide (Z7-9) with some of aromatic aldehydes. Hydrazide compounds were prepared using 4-substituted-aniline as starting material with diethyl ethoxyethylene malonate to afford, following heating in diphenyl ether, the desired ester (Z4-6), which was then treatment with hydrazine hydrate to yield the desired hydrazides.

The effect of the prepared compounds (Z22-45) on the growth of four types of pathological bacteria was studied, including (Bacillus Cereus) (Escherichia Coli) positive for gram dye and ( StaphylyLococcus) (Klebsiella Pneumoniae), negative for gram dye. Finally, the results obtained by physical methods, spectral methods including infrared (IR) and proton magnetic nuclear resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy were discussed.

The Viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. ahmed khader ahmed – University of Mosul/ College of Education for Pure Science and the membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Dhafer saber khalf – Technology University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Makhibr Hamdon- University of Mosul/ College of Agriculture and Forestry, and under the supervision and membership of Lect. Dr. Omer Abdulla Salih –University of Mosul/ College of Education for Pure Science.
