Master Thesis Viva _ Chemistry Department

Master thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” Development of spectrophotometric methods for the determination of some pharmaceutical compounds using various reactions ”

The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master thesis Viva entitled ” Development of spectrophotometric methods for the determination of some pharmaceutical compounds using various reactions “,

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Chemistry, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.

This study, presented by the master student Israa Abdel Hamid Ahmed Mustafa in the Department of Chemistry, included in the first chapter a review of the analytical methods used to estimate the drug compounds under study, represented by dopamine hydrochloride, methyldopa, mesalazine, and thiomersal,

The second chapter presents a new approach to determining dopamine hydrochloride and methyldopa in their pure forms and pharmaceutical preparations. In the third chapter, a sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed to determine mesalazine. The method utilizes an oxidative coupling reaction in which mesalazine reacts with 4-amino salicylic acid in a basic medium in the presence of potassium metaperiodate serving as the oxidizing agent. The second method involves the production of a green complex between thiomersal and TCNQ in an organic medium, with absorbance measured at 842 nm.

The Viva committee was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sobhi Mohsen Jarallah – University of Mosul/ College of Education for Pure Science and the membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Salem Sheet – University of Mosul/ College of Education for Girls, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Ali Hassan – University of Zakho / Faculty of Science, and under the supervision and membership of Lect. Dr. Muhammad Yahya Damra –University of Mosul/ College of Education for Pure Science.
