” Testing the effectiveness of active substances from some scavenger insects in inhibiting the growth of microorganisms ”
The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled ” Testing the effectiveness of active substances from some scavenger insects in inhibiting the growth of microorganisms”,
On Sunday, September 17, 2023, the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Biology, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.
This study, presented by the M.Sc. Student Mohanad Falih Bader in the Department of Biology, aimed to Obtain Alternative antibiotics from animal natural resources, Which experimentally tested as bacteria growth against sixth pathogenic or opportunistic gram positive and gram negative bacteria namely Bacillus cereus, Bacillus coagulans, Staphyllococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae .
However, the tested animal insect ,either whale body extract or its feces as following Musca domestica, Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa, Hemilepistus crenulatus, Pentadon algerinum, Gypsonoma euphraticana the extract fractionation were applied throw sequential solvents as a sequence :- Acidic methanol ,chloroform, diethylethor, Hexane and carbon tetrachloride ,besides the antibiotic Ceftriaxone (CRO) were used as standard drug(+ve control).
It was found significant differences in growth inhibition zone set the experimental bacteria species. For insect extract: the extract of the mole cricket, G. gryllotalpa had the 25.3mm heights antibacterial activity with inhibition against K. pneumoniae, the woodlice , H. crenulatus extract more inhibition growth S.typhi 25.0mm for grub P.algerinum the acetic methanol extract had the more bacterial inhibition S.typhi and 21.8mm for E.coli, more ever, 20.0 mm for diethylether P.algerinum. extract inhibited inhibition K.pneumoniae with 20.6mm and 17.6mm for staph. aureus with Hexane extract .
For house fly, M.domestica body extract staph aureus was exhibited high sensitivity with its extract by acidic methanol (18.3,19.6)mm and chloroform solvents whereas more inhibition for growth K.pneumoniae ,16.2mm by after application with diethylether extract in the field of bacterial inhibition by used and their products this first time it was tested in sect feces as antibacterial activity ,Acidic methanol of larvae G. euphraticana feces extract had given inhibition 16.2, 15.6 and 11.6mm for B.cereus staph.aureus and E.coli respectively and significantly more effective than (8.3, 14.6,0.0) mm treatment.
