Master Thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” The Fatal effect of Zirconium oxide nanoparticles against hydatid cysts in vitro and in vivo ”
The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled ” The Fatal effect of Zirconium oxide nanoparticles against hydatid cysts in vitro and in vivo “,
On Thursday, January 11, 2024 the respected Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Biology, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.
This study, presented by the M.Sc. Student Zeena Abed Albasit Mahmoud
in the Department of Biology, addressed the effect of zirconium oxide nanomaterial on the vitality of the protoscoleces of Echinococcus granulosus in vitro using different concentrations and different exposure periods. Four concentrations were chosen and injected into mice in vivo for the purpose of enhancing the immune response of albino mice against infection with cystic echinococcosis. The study lasted for five months, in which 75 male mice were used, 3 weeks old. The results of the study showed the following: 1.An increase in the rate of killing of protozoa in vitro by increasing the duration of exposure to Zirconium Oxide nanoparticles (ZrO2Nps). 2. A significant decrease (P≤ 0.01) in the numbers, weights, and diameters of hydatid cysts formed in the treated mice
3. Significant decrease (P≤ 0.01) in the weights of the liver and spleen and their enlargement rate in the treated mice.
4. A significant decrease (P≤ 0.01) in the immune response of mice in the level of interleukins IL-5 and IL-12 and a significant increase in IFN-γ reaching P≤ 0.05 five months after infection
The Viva committee was chaired by Prof . Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Abdullah – Al Nour University College and the membership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Buthaina Hatem Al-Sabaawi – University of Mosul / College of Medicine, Lecturer Dr. Omaima Adel Najm – University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science and under the supervision and membership of Prof. Dr. Asmaa Abdul Aziz Ali – University of Mosul / College of Education for Pure Science.
