Master’s Thesis in the College of Education for Pure Science, Department of Mathematics…

A master’s thesis entitled “Employing Plattner’s Theory in Teaching Mathematics and Its Impact on the Achievement of Second-Year Intermediate Students and the Development of Their Holistic Thinking” was discussed at the College of Education for Pure Science at the University of Mosul on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Fatehi Ali, the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Yasser Yahya Qasim, and a number of faculty members from the department.
The study, presented by the student Manal Muhammad Ismail from the Department of Mathematics, examined the impact of employing Plattner’s Theory in teaching mathematics on the achievement of second-year intermediate students and the development of their holistic thinking. Three null hypotheses were formulated: the first related to mathematics achievement, and the other two related to the extent of development of holistic thinking among second-year intermediate students. A purposive sample of second-grade female students from Al-Sham Intermediate School for Girls in Nineveh Governorate was selected for the academic year (2024-2025). The total sample size was (67) students, divided into two groups: an experimental group consisting of (33) students taught using Plattner’s theoretical steps, and a control group consisting of (34) students taught using the traditional method. Equivalence was achieved between the two research groups on the variables of (intelligence, mathematics grade point average, first-grade average, parents’ achievement, and holistic thinking).
The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Asim Ahmed Khalil, and Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Ali Hussein and Assistant Professor Dr. Suleiman Ahmed Younis as members, and Professor Dr. Enas Younis Mustafa and Professor Dr. Amer Abdul-Ilah Muhammad as both members and supervisors.
The Dean of the College presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Ali Hussein from the College of Education/University of Zakho for her travel and participation in the student’s discussion.

The master’s thesis was accepted. Congratulations to the student and her supervisors on this academic achievement.
