Master’s Thesis in the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Biology…

In fulfillment of the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (quality education), a master’s thesis entitled “The Biology of the Southern Cowpea Beetle Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab) (Bruchidae: Coleoptera) Treated with Vegetable Oils Extracted from Some Iraqi Medicinal Plants” was discussed in the College of Education for Pure Science at the University of Mosul on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Part of the thesis discussion was attended by the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Younis Saadi Saeed, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Azzam Salahuddin Younis, and a number of the department faculty members. The study, presented by the student Hanan Khalaf Ahmed Jazaa Al-Jazaa from the Department of Biology, examined the effect of rearing the southern cowpea beetle Callosobruchus maculatus on chickpea seeds (Cicer arietinum) treated with concentrations of 0.5, 1, 2.5, and 5% of oils extracted from thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.), rosemary (Salria rosmarinus), mint (Mentha spicata), and lavender (Lavandula angustipolia), as well as a comparative study of each type of oil.
The discussion committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Muneef Abd Mustafa Suleiman, with Assistant Professor Dr. Ibrahim Khalil Ibrahim and Assistant Professor Dr. Safaa Muhammad Mahmood as members, and Professor Dr. Adnan Musa Muhammad as both member and supervisor.
The master’s thesis was accepted. Congratulations to the student and supervisor for this scientific achievement.
