Master’s Thesis at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, Department of Biology…

In fulfillment of the of fourth goal (Quality Education) of the Sustainable Development Goals, a master’s thesis entitled “Identifying Some Mechanisms Enhancing Plant Growth by Soil-Inhabiting Bacteria” was defended at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Mosul on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
Part of the thesis defense was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Jassim Fatehi Ali, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Younis Saadi Saeed, and a number of department faculty members.
The study, presented by student Marwa Asaad Nayef from the Department of Biology, examined some of the direct mechanisms employed by atmospheric nitrogen-fixing bacteria isolated from the root nodules of six leguminous plants: broad beans, clover, lentils, fenugreek, wild lentils, and geranium. Upon laboratory diagnosis, these isolates showed positive results for most biochemical tests, including urease production, Congo red capture, bromothymol blue capture, lactose fermentation, and growth on glucose-peptone agar. The results demonstrated that the isolated bacteria were highly efficient at supplying the soil with the most important nutrients necessary for plant growth.
The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Raghad Nawaf Jarjees along with Assistant Professor Dr. Fawz Abdul-Salam Khalil and Assistant Professor Dr. Nawar Talal Hamed as members, and Professor Dr. Najwa Ibrahim Khalil as both member and supervisor.

The master’s thesis was accepted. Congratulations to the student and supervisor for this scientific achievement.
