Master Thesis Viva-Biology Department
Master Thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” The effect of the directed imagination strategy on the achievement of second year intermediate students in science and metacognitive thinking “The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled ” The effect of the directed imagination strategy on the achievement of second year intermediate students in science and metacognitive thinking “,On Thursday, August 18, 2022, the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Biology, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva. This study, presented by the M.Sc. Student Omran Mahmoud Jassim Al Ghadeer AL-jumaily in the Department of Biology, aimed at identifying “the effect of the directed imagination strategy on the scientific acquisition of the intermediate second grade students in the Science subject and developing their post cognitive thinking”To achieve the objective of the research, the researcher set forth six hypotheses that were submitted to experimentation by selecting the experimental design in the two equivalent groups (an experimental group and a control group) with pretest and posttest. The researcher selected the sample of the study deliberately from Amer Abdullah school that is affiliated to the Directorate of Education in Nineveh to be the domain for conducting the experiment. The sample of the study involved (44) students, (22) for each group. Then the researcher statistically achieved the equivalence between the two groups using Ki square and T test for the following variables: (learning acquisition in the subject of science for the second grade, for the academic year (2021-2022), calculating the time age of the students in months, the education of father, education of mothers, equivalence in the general average and the equivalence in the pretest in terms of the post cognitive thinking). There were no statistically significant differences in these variables. After the researcher specified the teaching material, he aimed at formulating the behavioral objectives of the subjects, which were (126) behavioral objective and prepared the teaching plans for both groups. To fulfill the objective of the research and to test its hypotheses, the researcher prepared two tools: the first is acquisition test, which consisted of (40) paragraphs in a form of selecting from multiple and the test of coupling and integration. The researcher determined the difficulty coefficient and the distinguishing power of the paragraphs and the invariability and validity were verified which was with a value of (0.0811) and extracted the distinguishing power. From the other hand, the second tool was the scale of post cognitive thinking with five alternatives: (always, often, sometimes, rarely and never) and, in its final form, it consisted of (34) paragraphs and the validity and invariability of the scale was (0.812) and the distinguishing power of the scale was determined. Also, the researcher himself taught the two groups. In the end of the experiment in the first term he applied the acquisition test and the post cognitive test to the students in the two groups. To process the data statistically, the researcher used SPSS software and the results showed the following:
- There is a significant difference in the (post cognitive thinking) posttest between the experimental and the control groups in favor of the experimental group and so the zero hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
- There is a significant difference in the (acquisition) posttest between the experimental and the control groups in favor of the experimental group and so the zero hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
- There is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest of the experimental in favor of the posttest and so the zero hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted………………..
