Master Thesis Viva _Mathematics Department

Master Thesis Viva in the College of Education for Pure Science entitled ” Employing fuzzy logic applications in the practical education course and its impact on mathematical culture and mental alertness among students of the mathematics department”

The College of Education for Pure Science, University of Mosul, has done the Master Thesis Viva entitled ” Employing fuzzy logic applications in the practical education course and its impact on mathematical culture and mental alertness among students of the mathematics department”,

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the College staff including the respected Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Qais Ismail Ibrahim, the Honorable Scientific Associate and Administrative Associate, the Honorable Head of the Department of Mathematics, and a number of the college’s teachers were attended the viva.

This study, presented by the Master student Safa Zeyad Thanoon in the Department of Mathematics, aimed to identify the effect of employing fuzzy logic applications to teach practical education in developing mathematical culture and mental alertness among students of the mathematics department.

To achieve the aim of the research, the following two hypotheses were formulated:

1- “There is no statistically significant difference at the level

(0.05) between the mean scores of the development of mathematical culture among the students of the Mathematics Department between the experimental group that studied according to the employment of fuzzy logic and the control group that studied in the usual way.”

2- “There is no statistically significant difference at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of the development of mental alertness among the students of the Mathematics Department between the experimental group that studied according to the employment of fuzzy logic and the control group that studied in the usual way.”

The research required the preparation of two tools, the first one is the mathematical culture test prepared from the four dimensions (mathematics history, nature of mathematics, concepts, skill field) The second tool is the mental alertness scale prepared by Abdullah (2013), and its final version consisted of (35) items. Its paragraphs were adapted mathematically and distributed on four dimensions of mental alertness (vigilant distinguishing, openness to the new, orientation towards the present, and awareness of multiple points of view).

According to the results of the research, the researcher put out a number of conclusions , including that the applications of fuzzy logic strengthened the students’ mathematical culture. The researcher recommends a number of recommendations, including direction for practical education teachers to employ fuzzy logic in teaching mathematics. As a complement to the current research, the researcher put forward proposals for future research.

The Viva committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahid Hamid Thamer / Anbar University / College of Education for Human Sciences and the membership of Asst.
