Master Thesis at Department of Computer Engineering on “Realization of Dependable Digital Systems for Safety-Critical Computer Systems using FPGAs”

A Master thesis was discussed in Department ofComputer Engineering / College of Engineering / University ofMosul entitled “Realization of Dependable Digital Systems for Safety-Critical Computer Systems using FPGAs”submitted by postgraduate student (Farah Natiq Yaseen Qassab bashi) on Sunday, 22/08/2021.The thesis included a study of several hardware-based digital systems that were built based on fault tolerance techniques(F)and field-programmable gate arrays(FPGAs), and reliability analysis. It was adigital system topropose anew reliable(DeDS)Consists of blocks offault -tolerant(FTBs), and spare functional blocks(SFBs), synchronization units, and input and output units.Whereas, Markov-based chains have been used tomodelthe correct operation of the proposed hardware system that it aims to achieve on the technology based onFPGA.This system is designed to be reliable against transient faults(TF)and permanent faults(PF)The common causes of hardware failure(CCF). (MathworksSimulink) tool has been usedin modelingof the hardware components of the proposed system and the verification of safety requirements, the design tool has been usedVivadoTo achieve the hardware components of the proposed system.System reliability analysis was achieved using .-based chainsMarkovand programWinSure/WinStem.Moreover, to facilitate programming, a function block programming model similar to the international standard has been adopted.IEC 61131-3”.The injection procedure for errors transient and permanent common at different levels of theproposed system to verify the correct operation of theinternal components of thedigital systemproposed(DeDS).The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Shefa Abdulrahman Dawwd, and membership of Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahlam Fadel Mahmood, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hazim Younis, and Dr. Shawkat Sabah Khairullah (supervisor).
