Master Thesis at Department of Computer Engineering on “Smart Monitoring System of Environment Pollution Based on IoT”
A Master Thesis was discussed in Department of Computer Engineering at College of Engineering / University of Mosul, entitled “Smart Monitoring System of Environment Pollution Based on IoT” on Sunday, August 29, 2021, submitted by postgraduate student (Raghad Hazim Saeed). The thesis presented a new design and implementation of a prototype for monitoring air pollution.A smart environmental air pollution monitoring system (SEAPMS) for monitoring concentrations of main air pollutant gases in Mosul city and a fire extinguishing system (FEXS) based on IoT has been designed. The SEAPMS uses low-cost air quality gas monitoring sensors with Particle Photon. This system measures concentrations of gasses including carbon monoxide CO, carbon dioxide CO2, methane CH4, dust, smoke, temperature, and humidity using a group of sensors represented by MQ7 sensor for CO gas, MQ135 sensor for CO2 gas, MQ4 sensor to measure CH4 gas, dust sensor(DSM501), MQ2 sensor for measuring smoke, DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor. The sensors will collect data on various environmental parameters and provide them to particle photons, which compares them with a specified threshold limit value (TLV) for each sensor then sends them to special IoT platform known as UBIDOTS.UBIDOTS which has been chosen as an IoT platform for this project will send data to the cloud then they will be realized and virtualized to be displayed. The thesis aimed to provide low cost, real-time monitoring system based on IoT that can be showed and displayed anytime, anywhere as needed, where the system prevents the risk of environmental disasters by sending an alarm message to the competent authorities through phone, email, or any smart application to prevent pollution before it occurs. The system has been tested in a variety of Mosul city locales. The FEXS will depend on the SEAPMS data analyses, all results indicated a difference in readings between these locations.
