Master Thesis at Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering on “Effect of intermittent addition on the wetting pattern and moisture distribution of a single emitter under the surface”

A master’s thesis was discussed in Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Effect of intermittent addition on the wetting pattern and moisture distribution of a single emitter under the surface” on Tuseday, Sep. 14, 2021 submitted by postgraduate student (Ahmed Abdulrazzaq khudhur). The Thesis included 12-laboratory experiment on soil model compacted inside a metal container whose dimensions are (50 cm, 50 cm, 70 cm) with a metal frame and with two transparent face in order to monitor the wetting front advance with operating time. The emitter fived in the corner of the container between the two sides of transparency to get the quarter of the three-dimensional wetness onion. Experiment were carried out on two types of soils (clay soil and loam soil) and under to operating pressures 130 cm and 105 cm above the emitter level. The water application done in two methods, continuous application and intermittent application with a cycle ratio of 1/2 with 2 hours application cycle and 1/3 with 1 hours of application per cycle. The results of the study showed that the emitter discharge rate change with time by an exponential function and that the rate of discharge increases at the beginning of each cycle, and then returns to its actual level after a period of time. The study also showed that the volume of the wetted soil as a results of a given volume of water applied to the soil decreased as the circle ratio increased and as a result the moisture content increased, and also for same applied water volume the volume of wetted increased as the pressure head over the emitter level decreased.
