Master Thesis on “Toward Net Zero Energy Building NZEB”
A master thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering / University of Mosul entitled “Toward Net Zero Energy Building NZEB, A Case Study with the Help of HOMER Software” submitted by (Eman Ahmed Ali), Supervised By Dr. Wael Hashem Hamdon on Thursday, April 28, 2022.The thesis included a case study was conducted for one of the buildings (Deanship of the College of Electronics Engineering, located in the city of Mosul, northern Iraq) to reach a net-zero energy building (NZEB).The study was conducted in a simulation method using HOMER software to perform an optimization and sensitivity test and to find the most optimal and economically appropriate solutions. A renewable energy model represented by solar panels in a grid-connected type system was simulated after the hourly data was recorded over a whole year and 8760 values were obtained, using a smart meter, the energy purchased from the grid can be measured and the energy sold to the grid. The results showed that the use of 173 solar panels with a capacity of 415 watts per panel on the roof of the proposed building for a total capacity of 71.795 kw and inverter size of 75 kw and with the help of the smart meter, the cost of energy COE becomes zero dollars/kilowatt-hour ($/K Wh).
