Master Thesis on “Experimental Investigation of the Behavior of Arch Reinforced Concrete Beam”
A master thesis was discussed in Department of Civil Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Experimental Investigation of the Behavior of Arch Reinforced Concrete Beam” submitted by (Saadi Maan Saad Al-deen), Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Suhaib Yahya Qasim Al-Darzion Monday, Sep. 26, 2022.In the present study, ten reinforced concrete arch beams were fabricated and tested experimentally. The work includes supporting both ends by using fixed support and applying a single load at midspan. The incorporating columns at both ends, effects of adding middle steel to columns, filling cracks with epoxy, strengthening them with (CFRP) parallel and perpendicular to the crack, and repairing openings with polymeric cement mortar with and without (CFRP) were studied. The work includes investigating the failure mode, the initial crack load, the failure load, and the crushing load. It was concluded that the models cracked in different ways. The internal reinforcement added delays the appearance of cracks and improves the models’ ability to withstand the applied stress. The mode of failure and failure load values were varied by using roller support. Compared to a model with an opening that was strengthened using polymeric cement mortar alone, the fracture load was enhanced by the technique of reinforcement utilized in the model that has an opening and is reinforced by polymeric cement mortar and (CFRP). The fracture load was higher for the model with cracks strengthened by (CFRP) parallel to the cracks than that used (CFRP) perpendicular to the cracks.
