Master Thesis on “Study and Evaluation of Millimeter wave Technology in Coordinated Multi-Point for 5G”
A Master thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Study and Evaluation of Millimeter wave Technology in Coordinated Multi-Point for 5G” submitted by (Rafal Azzam Abed Mahmood), Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Saad Ahmed Ayoob on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.The thesis presented modeling, simulation, and evaluation of the performance of millimeter wave technology for several models in terms of throughput, amplitude, and signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio using the MATLAB program. This study also dealt with an evaluation of the performance of users located within different dimensions and at different azimuth and deflection angles as well. The results show that changing the height of the antenna matrix and changing the dimensions of the sector affects the value of the throughput, so a new coordinated multi-point (CoMP) model was proposed that includes coordination between millimeter wave beams within three different heights of the antenna matrix in one Tower, and the heights included (5-15-50 m).
A comprehensive study of the sector was conducted. The proposed coordination technique achieved higher system capacity by proving the proportionality between increasing the height of the antenna array with increasing the coverage area. The antenna array height at 5 m is superior to that of 15 m and 50 m in an area of 66.7%. The highest improvement percentage at 15 m is 19.37% compared to a height of 50 m within an area of 83.3%. The 50m height overcomes the highest improvement rate of 12.9% compared to the 5m height in the entire sector.
