Master thesis on “The Strategies of Achieving Uniqueness in Urban Design”

A master thesis was discussed in Architectural Engineering department / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “The Strategies of Achieving Uniqueness in Urban Design” submitted by (Shahad Nathim Sheet), under the supervision of (Assis. Prof. Momtaz Hazim Al-Dewachi) on Wednesday, 16/11/2022.
The process of achieving the uniqueness of the architectural building requires the process of designing to be based on innovative and creative design concepts, mechanisms, and techniques to produce the designs and then mix them with the surrounding urban context. It needs an urban design strategy with a special methodology that depends not only on the designer but on the perception of the recipient for such shapes, formations, and elements. Global and local literature shed light on various mechanisms and methods on how to achieve uniqueness within the urban context and the motivational mechanisms which guide the recipient and create an awareness of the unique building and the nature of the relation of the unique building with the surrounding context, and the characteristics and mechanisms of uniqueness which produce a unique form which stands out of its times and place, with the support of computing tools that helped in the formation of such designs.
As a result of the abovementioned, the research problem was identified as the following (the absence of a clear holistic conception showing the knowledge related to the aspects affecting the production of unique designs, which enables the designer to follow a clear mechanism to come up with a unique design within its context, such knowledge can demonstrate different methods used in achieving uniqueness in an urban context among diverse design practices).
The objective of the study, can be summarized as follow, (to explore the design mechanisms and steps followed within the different design practices and investigate the extent of their impact on achieving unique building designs).
