Higher Diploma Research on “Study of Path Loss in The 5G Networks”

A Higher Diploma Research was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Study of Path Loss in The 5G Networks” submitted by (Wasayif Khalil Ibrahim Ahmad), Supervised By Assistant Professor Dr. Saad Ahmed Ayoob on Thursday Dec. 15, 2022.The Research presents the modeling and simulation of path loss in the Line of Sight (LOS) transmission for three models (Okumura Model, Hata Model, Free Space Model) in the outdoor environment and evaluates the performance of millimeter wave technology in terms of capacity and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) using (Matlab2021) program, it also dealt with the study of capacity with the presence of MIMO technology.
The results based on the studied models showed that the path loss increase from (62.9-95.3 (dB)) for the Free Space model, from (89.7-143.3 (dB)) for the Okumura model, and from (46.2- 137.3 (dB)) for the Hata model, according to the increase in the distance of the receiving antenna from the transmitting antenna (Tower). Some simulations were also conducted in an outdoor environment with different frequencies for comparison, and when using the MIMO technique, the capacity improved from (1.9-12.5 (Gb/s/Hz)) for the Free Space model and from (4.2-11.9 (Gb/s/Hz))) for the Okumura model and from (6.8-13.4 (Gb/s/Hz)) for the Hata model compared to using the millimeter wave.
