Master thesis on “Adaptive Control of Wind Power Generator”
A Master thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Adaptive Control of Wind Power Generator” submitted by (Zainab Jamal Mohammed), Supervised By Dr. Saad Enad Mohammed as First Supervisor and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Obaid Mustafa as Second Supervisor. On Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023.
The thesis proposed a hybrid maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm based on power and torque to capture the maximum power from the wind turbine. The proposed MPPT has some advantages over traditional MPPT, such as simple structure, easy implementation, and efficiency under critical conditions such as variable wind speed and load. The converters link the wind turbine based on a permanent magnet synchronous generator to the main power grid. An optimal FPI controller is also used to regulate the converters on the generator and grid side. The results of the control unit using (FPI) based on (PSO) are compared with the PI control unit using (PSO) to verify the superiority of the first. Wind turbines with a capacity of (6 KW) are used to represent the proposed system and to test different control methods. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed techniques, the system is modeled and run in (MATLAB/Simulink) software.
All three variables (power, rotor speed, torque) are within acceptable limits when applying the proposed controller to a system that has variable input wind speed. The results showed a fast response and quality of the power generated as well as improved system stability. The proposed strategy is evaluated in several scenarios. Simulation results prove that the proposed technology is highly efficient against disturbances that occur in the system, such as changes in wind speed and loads.
