College of Engineering at University of Mosul holds an international scientific symposium on Mosul City’s architectural heritage
Under the patronage and presence of Prof. Dr. Kossay Kamalaldeen Al-Ahmady / president of University of Mosul and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdulrahim Ibrahim Jasim/ dean of college of engineering, College of Engineering held its international scientific symposium entitled “The people of Mosul and their memories -Sustainability of the city’s Memory and its Architectural Heritage” with the participation of lecturers and researchers from Free university of Berlin, university of Dortmund, Germany, Austrian university of Graz and university of Amsterdam, Netherlands on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Euphrates Hall.
The symposium was attended by Prof. Dr. Monir Salim Taha / Rector Assistant for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Ayman Talib Hamid / Assistant dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Bisam Ehsan Al-Hafith/ Assistant dean for administrative affairs, heads of scientific departments, a number of lecturers, staff and students, and Dr. Heike Wendt from Austrian University of Graz and Dr. Isabel Toral from Free University of Berlin and Dr. Konstantin klein from University of Amsterdam as well as lecturers from the faculties of science, archeology and engineering and researchers from the city.
The lectures of the first session dealt with, which was chaired by Assistant Prof. Raed Salim Al-Numan from College of engineering, included topics on mapping the oral history of the city of Mosul, reflections on the memories of the Mosul sky, as well as a study on the history of Christmas in the old alleys of Mosul and Najafi Street, memories and culture.
The lectures of the second session, which was chaired by Dr. Heike Wendt from the Austrian University of Gráz, dealt with the heritage of the place, the spirit and architecture of the city of Mosul in the paintings of the artist Rakan Dabdoub, and the intangible traditions related to the mosques in old Mosul.
