Master Thesis on “Study and Simulation Wide-Stop band Low Pass Microwave Filter in Mobile Communications”
A master thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at he University of Mosul entitled “Study and Simulation Wide-Stop band Low Pass Microwave Filter in Mobile Communications”, submitted by ( Ashraf Khalid Azeez), Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Saad Wasmi Osman On Thursday, March,07, 2024.
The Thesis aims to Design a low-pass filter on a Microstrip that works in base stations for 5G applications and has a high ability to block unwanted signals above the cut-off frequency by removing the harmonics that appear in the stop band. The size of this filter is as small as possible, with minima Insertion losses in the passing region, and has high selectivity.
The Thesis discussed How to design a low-pass filter for several types of approximations (Generalised Chebyshev, Chebyshev). Also, a Chebyshev low-pass filter was designed on the FR4 Microstrip using a stepped impedance method at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, which works in 5G applications. Also, a Generalised Chebyshev low-pass filter was designed on a Roger RT/Duroid 5880 Microstrip using a resonator method and at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The effect of using a slot in the ground plane (DGS) of the low-pass filter was also studied to improve the suppression level of the filter.
The results showed that the Use of a Generalised Chebyshev low-pass filter on a Roger RT/Duroid 5880 Microstrip using the resonator method is better than the stepped impedance method, as the band width became 20 GHz and the suppression level was less than 18 dB. Using a slot in the ground plane of the Microstrip led to improvements in the suppression level, as it became below 28 dB and the frequency greater than 20 GHz.
