Master thesis in Department of Electrical Engineering on ” Improving Switch Mode Power Supply Performance Based on Suitable Galvanic Transformer”

MSc thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled ” Improving Switch Mode Power Supply Performance Based on Suitable Galvanic Transformer ”, submitted by (Abdulrahman Nathim Hammo), Supervised By Lect. Dr. Salwan Samir Sabry as First Supervisor and Experienced Prof. Dr. Basil Mohammed Saied as second Supervisor. On Tuesday ,October, 1, 2024.
The thesis examined the properties and efficiency of several magnetic core materials ferrite materials N-97 and N-92 based on their elevated permeability, minimal losses, and good operating temperature. that are appropriate for application in switched-mode power supplies (SMPS).
The thesis discussed the impact of several wrapping techniques, such as round American Wire Gauge (AWG) 20, LITZ strands, and foil wire, on the efficiency of high-frequency transformers. The study specifically focuses on how the existence of air gaps in the core affects performance All phases’ models are evaluated using ANSYS Electronics Desktop with PExpert to detect and analyze core losses, wire losses, and core temperature

The results showed “The results inform the advancement of high-frequency galvanic isolation, promoting the utilization of superior materials and designs to achieve improved performance and reliability. The study shows that using foil winding in galvanic isolation results in enhanced performance in terms of losses and operating temperature”.
