These workshops included educational lectures aimed at introducing the objectives, mission, and vision of this newly established unit and highlighting its importance in promoting human rights awareness within the university community.
The lectures emphasized the necessity of maintaining communication with civil society organizations to contribute to enriching human rights experiences and resolving conflicts. It was stressed that achieving these goals requires adopting the recommendations issued by the Human Rights Department of the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Body at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, monitoring their implementation on the ground, and proposing initiatives related to promoting human rights culture at the University of Mosul in general and particularly within the College of Engineering.
The activities also focused on seeking cooperation with relevant authorities such as state institutions, ministries, and human rights organizations, and on hosting specialists to enhance both individual and institutional efforts. The vision of the Human Rights Unit was introduced, aiming to encourage peacebuilding efforts, equip faculty and students with skills for constructive conflict resolution, promote understanding and adherence to international human rights standards, achieve gender, religious, and racial equality, and respect cultural diversity by continuously, systematically, and intentionally spreading human rights culture to build peace, foster social cohesion, and ensure the application of human rights principles within the College.
This initiative received wide appreciation from the attendees, including faculty members, staff, and students of the College.
