Master’s Thesis at College of Engineering on “Disease Detection System Based on Iris Recognition: An Automated Approach to Disease Diagnosis Using Iris Images”

Department of Electrical Engineering at College of Engineering, University of Mosul, held a master’s thesis defense entitled “Disease Detection System Based on Iris Recognition: An Automated Approach to Disease Diagnosis Using Iris Images” on Monday, June 2, 2025.

The session was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Tareq Yaseen, Head of Department of Electrical Engineering, along with several faculty members of the college.

The thesis submitted by the student Alaa Abdulkarim Ahmed Hassan, aimed to “diagnose type 2 diabetes through iridology using artificial intelligence algorithms.”

The research addressed “early detection of type 2 diabetes by focusing on specific regions of interest within the iris that correspond to parts of the pancreas, utilizing machine learning algorithms.”

The results demonstrated “an effective detection rate using the right iris in the region of interest between 7 and 8 o’clock with an accuracy of 84.1%, and using the left iris in the region between 4 and 5 o’clock with an accuracy of 85%.”
