Symposium as Part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week at College of Engineering, University of Mosul, Titled: “Prevention Begins with Awareness: Together for a Drug-Free University Community”

Under the patronage of President of University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of Dean of College of Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoon, and as part of the activities of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, University Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with University Psychological Counseling Department, Student Activities Division, and Media and Government Communication Division at College of Engineering, and in collaboration with the Security Center for Universities and Institutes of Nineveh, held a Symposium for the academic year 2025–2026 entitled “Prevention Begins with Awareness: Together for a Drug-Free University Community” on Monday, October 17, 2025, in Environmental Engineering Department Hall.
The Symposium included three main topics: the legal aspect, the social aspect, and the psychological aspect.
The Symposium aimed to raise awareness among university students about the dangers of narcotic substances and their health, social, and legal impacts, and to highlight the role of students in building a safe university environment free from risky behaviors. It also sought to develop sound decision-making skills and promote a culture of mutual support and psychological counseling to prevent addiction and preserve mental well-being.
The Symposium was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yasser Mahfouz Hamed from College of Education for Humanities / Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences; Asst. Prof. Dr. Redhwan Mohammed Mustafa from College of Education for Pure Sciences / Department of Physics; along with members of Security Center for Universities and Institutes of Nineveh.
The event was attended by both the Scientific and Administrative Assistant Deans of College of Engineering, as well as a number of faculty members and students from the college.
