Scientific Symposium at College of Engineering, University of Mosul on Electric Vehicle Charging Systems

Under the patronage of President of University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and supervision of Dean of College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoon, College of Engineering – Media and Government Communications Division, in cooperation with Huawei Technology Innovation Company and the Sustainable Development Unit, organized the second scientific symposium for the academic year 2025–2026 titled “Electric Vehicle Charging Systems… A Step Toward a Smart and Sustainable University.”
The event was held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Scientific and Literary Forum, with the attendance of university officials, faculty members, researchers, and a delegation from Huawei.
The symposium supports the College’s efforts to achieve several Sustainable Development Goals, especially affordable and clean energy, innovation and infrastructure, and partnerships for the goals.
The first session, chaired by Dr. Riyadh Zaki Sabri, included two lectures: “Smart University and Smart Campus” by Eng. Zaid Majid Kazem from Huawei, and “Overview About Solar Solution” by Eng. GE XINHAI from Huawei China. The lectures focused on digital transformation and solar energy in supporting modern charging systems.
The second session, chaired by Professor Dr. Ahmed Nasr Bahjat, featured three lectures on smart charging infrastructure, the future of smart communications and AI, and recent technologies in electric vehicle charging.
The symposium concluded with key recommendations, including: developing integrated infrastructure for EV charging stations on campus, integrating renewable energy with smart charging systems, adopting international standards supporting V2G technology, implementing a pilot project at the university, enhancing research through a living lab approach, creating secure AI-ready communication networks—including quantum networks—and developing tariff models to encourage the use of electric vehicles. These steps aim to strengthen University of Mosul’s position as a national model for a smart and sustainable university.
