A Workshop in Department of Electrical Engineering on “H-Index and How to Choose a Scientific Journal”
As part of College of Engineering’s efforts to develop research skills and support Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Department of Electrical Engineering, in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit, held a workshop on Sunday, November 30, 2025, titled “H-Index and How to Choose a Scientific Journal.”
The workshop, attended by postgraduate students, aimed to explain the H-index, its calculation through databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science, and its importance in evaluating research performance. It also presented strategies to improve the index.
A second theme focused on selecting suitable scientific journals based on criteria such as indexing, impact factor, journal ranking (Q1–Q4), publication fees, and review speed, along with guidance on identifying and avoiding predatory journals. Practical tools like Elsevier Journal Finder and Think Check Submit were introduced.
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Obaid Mustafa.
