Department of Civil Engineering Organizes a Training Course on “Field Investigations and Laboratory Testing and Their Role in Reducing Engineering Problems in Civil Engineering Projects”

As part of the scientific activities of College of Engineering at University of Mosul, and in line with its efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Department of Civil Engineering organized a training course entitled “Field Investigations and Laboratory Testing and Their Role in Reducing Engineering Problems in Civil Engineering Projects” for the period 15–22 December 2025.

The course targeted academic staff, engineers, and postgraduate students at the College of Engineering, aiming to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in conducting and interpreting geotechnical field investigations and laboratory tests, thereby reducing engineering problems and ensuring the safety and sustainability of civil engineering projects.

The course was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Hani Taha, who also served as the course supervisor, along with Dr. Qutaiba Nizar Al-Saffar, Dr. Mohammed Nazim Jaro, Ms. Zeina Ahmed Saleh, and Asst. Lecturer Abdulnasser Younis Al-Shalahoubi.

The training program included an introduction to geotechnical investigations and their importance in civil engineering projects; soil types and properties; stages of site investigation; laboratory testing and soil characterization; analysis and interpretation of test results; and the application of geotechnical data in engineering design.
An evaluation examination was conducted at the end of the course to assess participants’ learning outcomes.
