Higher Diploma Research on “PID Controller for a Multi Input and Multi Output System”

A Higher Diploma Research was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “PID Controller for a Multi Input and Multi Output System” submitted by (Aseel Aseem Mohammed Mustafa), Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Obaid Mustafa on Wednesday Feb. 1, 2023.The Research presented the mathematical modeling of a Quadruple Tank System (QTS) nonlinear multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) tank system using the principle of linearity and the formation of a Jacobian matrix to represent the system in State Space model. Using the simulation tools in the MATLAB program (Matlab /Simulink), the Quadruple Tank System was designed in addition to the design of a Proportional-Integral controller (PI) and a Proportional-Integral-Derivative controller (PID) unit to control the required fluid level in the quadruple tank system (QTS). the parameters of both the PI controller and the PID controller were set first using Trial and Error method, meaning that the parameters for the controllers were set manually or the second method Adjust PID Design in PID Tuner which was used to adjust the parameters gain for each controller PI and PID. In addition, the effects of PI and PID controllers were studied with the transient response and with the steady-state response of the Quadruple Tank System. After comparing the results, it was concluded that the method of automatically adjusting the gain of the PID controller is easier to adjust the parameters of both PI, PID and gave better results due to its dependence on a reasonable trade-off between performance and durability.
