Human Rights Unit at College of Engineering Holds Workshop on Developing a Thinking Culture as a Means to Achieve Human Right to Social Progress

Under the patronage of President of University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of Dean of College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoon, Human Rights Unit at College of Engineering held a workshop titled “Developing a Thinking Culture as a Means to Achieve Human Right to Social Progress”, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

The workshop was conducted as part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Education and Higher Education 2022–2031. It was presented by Assistant Lecturer Sura Mohammed Adel Al-Hayali and Assistant Professor Nesma Moan Mohammed Thabit.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of cultivating a thinking culture and how it contributes to promoting human rights in societies by supporting the right to social development and education, as stated in human rights principles.

The event focused on two main themes:

  1. Highlighting basic thinking skills, especially creative thinking, along with the most effective methods to develop it and overcome related obstacles.

  2. Presenting key strategies that university professors can adopt to encourage students to think critically and scientifically, and to move away from rote memorization and repetition.

The workshop concluded with a recommendation to link the academic content of university curricula with real-world applications, enabling students to think analytically and logically, thereby maximizing their educational benefit.

The workshop was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Tareq Yaseen, Head of Electrical Engineering Department, along with several faculty and staff members from College of Engineering.
