Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hamid Ibrahim Al-Rashidi, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, the Continuing Education Unit—in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosul—held a scientific symposium entitled “Transitioning to the Bologna Process: Prospects and Challenges of Higher Education” on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Jalal Jameel Hall.

The symposium was attended by department rapporteurs and all members of the scientific committees, examination committees, and sub-committees. It featured lectures delivered by:

• Assist. Prof. Dr. Omar Fawaz Al-ChalabiScientific Symposium on Transitioning to the Bologna Process: Prospects and Challenges of Higher Education

• Assist. Prof. Firdous Behnam Yishou

• Assist. Lecturer Azhar Hikmat Mahmood

The session was moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Zaid Tariq Fadhil.

The symposium included a set of strategic objectives aimed at developing the educational system for the upcoming academic year 2026–2027. These objectives focused on:

• Ways to implement the new educational system to ensure the quality of academic outputs and complete the transition toward e-governance.

• Including first-year students across the college’s three departments in the new system starting at the beginning of the academic year 2026.

• Precisely organizing the distribution of course credits among core, supportive, and enrichment subjects.

• Achieving the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (Quality Education).
