Vision
The department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine looks forward to achieving excellence in medical education and scientific research to create a distinguished generation professionally and scientifically with the ability to continuously develop and keep pace with all scientific developments in the specialization, in addition to enhancing cooperation between the scientific and service aspects of health institutions in order to serve the community by providing high-quality laboratory services.
Mission
One of the primary tasks of the department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine is to provide excellent education, high training, distinguished research, and a high level of diagnostic services for the patient to improve health care in Nineveh Governorate.Also, the ability to make students familiar with the basics of pathology and forensic medicine, its complications and signs, and its relationship to clinical courses in subsequent academic years at the college
Goals
- Teaching pathology to third-level students in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and Forensic Medicine to fourth-level students.
- Monitoring and analyzing functional and histological pathological variables and how to diagnose them in preparation for understanding clinical medical science and linking pathological changes to disease manifestations.
- Understand the role of pathologists as part of an integrated medical team responsible for diagnosing a medical cases and determining appropriate treatment.
- Providing basic information for various aspects of forensic medical issues for living and dead patients and being able to write correct initial forensic medical reports and a death certificate after graduation.
- Teaching postgraduate students (board and master’s) in the specialty of pathology, in addition to giving pathology courses to postgraduate students in the departments of clinical chemistry and pharmacology.
About The department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine
The department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine was established in 1962, as a division called Histopathology, affiliated with the Surgery department, headed by Professor Dr. Khalil Al-Shabandar.Dr. Ahmed Al-Dabbagh was the head of the division. Then In 1972, by decision of the Presidency of the University, the department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine formed, and headed by Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Hasso. The number of staff members in the department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine is 23, including 2 holders of the academic rank of Professor, 4 with the rank of Assistant Professor, 8 with the rank of Lecturer, 2 with the rank of Assistant Lecturer, and 5 with the title of Physician. In addition, the number of administrative staff is 1, and the number of technical staff is 1.
