About the Department

The Department of Medical Microbiology is one of the principal academic departments of the College of Medicine, University of Mosul. It was established in 1962, three years after the founding of the College of Medicine. Initially, the department was administratively integrated with other academic departments before becoming an independent department during the 1964–1965 academic year.

The Department offers comprehensive instruction in the major disciplines of medical microbiology, including bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and medical immunology. These subjects are taught through both theoretical and practical courses to third-year medical students.

Postgraduate programs leading to the Master’s (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees were introduced during the 1971–1972 academic year.

The Department is staffed by a distinguished team of highly qualified faculty members specializing in microbiology, immunology, and parasitology, who are actively engaged in medical education, scientific research, and postgraduate supervision.
