The department of Anatomy
Vision:
The department of anatomy should be an important center in providing scientific and qualitative knowledge of basic sciences, namely anatomy, histology and embryology, in order to become a fundamental and important pillar for building the student’s cognitive abilities in the college of medicine by linking education in the department of anatomy to basic health needs in the future, in order to increase knowledge of most health challenges and problems in society and improve the level of education in the college and develop the basics of the medical profession to keep pace with developed countries.
Mission:
Preparing students scientifically and providing them with the necessary preliminary information about the human body and its composition at the macroscopic and microscopic levels, with a focus on the applied aspects of providing information.
Goals:
1. Continuous follow-up and development of the laboratory teaching process in the department and the plan established to achieve quality and accreditation.
2. Supporting the quality assurance and accreditation process in line with the department’s goals and mission.
3. The student acquires in-depth experience and information in the applied, clinical and radiological aspect of anatomy.
4. The student acquires in-depth information in histology, embryology and microbiology.
5. Contributing, assisting and maintaining the accreditation of the college.
6. Raising the scientific level of postgraduate studies to ensure high quality in graduate efficiency.
About the department of anatomy:
The department of Anatomy has been established since the establishment of Mosul Medical College in 1959. The teaching staff in the department provide theoretical and practical teaching of anatomy and medical biology for first-stage students, as well as theoretical and practical teaching of macroscopic anatomy, neurological anatomy, histology and embryology for second-stage students, and macroscopic and radiographic anatomy for the two stages. The department contains the Experimental Research Unit, which provides laboratory animals such as rats and rabbits for scientific research. The department also contains a museum containing mummified plastic and human samples. The branch also accepts and supervises students from the college of medicine and dentistry to study master and doctorate degrees in anatomy, where more than 35 master’s students and 13 Ph.D. students have graduated. The department conducts monthly seminars with the participation of postgraduate students under the supervision of the professors in the department.
