Human Rights Unit Head Visits Regional Studies Center to Expand Academic Cooperation

Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul welcomed, on Thursday morning, 5 February 2026, Dr. Saeed Khdeida Qolo Ali Al-Sajjari, Head of the University’s Human Rights Unit, during an official visit aimed at strengthening scientific and institutional cooperation between the two sides.

The meeting discussed a number of joint projects and initiatives designed to promote a culture of human rights within the university environment and the local community, particularly in the areas of awareness-raising, capacity building, and the conduct of specialized research and studies, in addition to organizing seminars and training workshops targeting students and university staff.

Both sides emphasized the importance of integrating academic and human rights efforts in supporting pathways toward social peace and in reinforcing the values of justice, citizenship, and tolerance, in line with the societal role of the University of Mosul during the post-conflict phase and the rebuilding of community trust.

The meeting also underscored that these initiatives are directly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably:

Goal 4: Quality Education, through the promotion of human rights culture and legal awareness;

Goal 5: Gender Equality, by supporting a fair and inclusive university environment;

Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities;

Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, through strengthening the rule of law and building academic institutions supportive of rights and freedoms;

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, via institutional cooperation among university entities.

This visit comes within the framework of the Regional Studies Center’s strategic direction to expand its network of partnerships within and beyond the university, contributing to the effective use of scientific research in serving human rights and sustainable development issues in Nineveh Governorate and Iraq as a whole.
