A scientific workshop in the Department of new and renewable energies entitled: “nanotechnology.. A small world with big opportunities”

Under the patronage of the president of the University of Mosul, Prof. Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Brahimi, and under the supervision and follow – up of the dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, and in cooperation with the presidency of the University of Mosul-Department of studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the Department of new and renewable energies at the College of science organized a scientific workshop entitled: “nanotechnology: a small world with great opportunities”, on Monday morning, September 15, 2025 at the Avicenna Hall in the department, in the presence of a group of teachers and students.

The workshop was moderated by the teacher Dr. mayad Salem Younis and the teacher Dr. Ibtisam Yahya Abdullah, where they provided a full explanation of the concept of nanotechnology and its multiple uses, stressing that this field represents a scientific and technical revolution that opens wide horizons for development in various disciplines.

The two lectures touched on the most important applications of nanotechnology, including:

Medicine: creating more effective and accurate treatments and medicines.

Energy: raising the efficiency of energy exploitation and developing new sources.

Material industry: production of advanced materials that withstand extreme conditions and resist corrosion.

Electronics: manufacture of smaller and more efficient devices.

Environment: development of nanotechnologies for the purification of water and air from pollutants.

At the end of the workshop, the participants came up with a number of recommendations, most notably:

The need to keep pace with the accelerated development in the field of nanotechnology and employ it in community service.

The importance of studying the possible effects of nanomaterials on human health and the environment to ensure their safe use.

This workshop comes in line with the directions of the College of Science in supporting solid scientific activities, promoting research and innovation to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
